Ignorance Is Far From Bliss

For what valid reason do people have to be ignorant ? Whether you’re casually walking through the park on a sunny day or strolling through the town looking at overpriced clothing made by under paid workers, there will always be some jumped up, silver spoon sucker waiting to defecate all over your mood. The thing is there’s no excuse to act this way, even if that morning you have woke to find the neighbours children have been break dancing on your chrysanthemums, this does not give you the right to blend ignorance into your already depressing personality.

I have always been a polite person, holding doors open for people, especially the elderly. Despite the condition of public transport and the ever growing quantity of crack den dwellers occupying the gangways on such services, I would always offer my seat to those who need it. Now this may not seem such a valiant motion to you but where I come from this is as rare as the before mentioned public transport learning to be efficient. Perhaps this is why I struggle to receive thanks for my actions, instead being presented with looks that could have had Adolf Hitler shaking in his SS uniform.

Basically what I’m getting at is why does it take so much to say ‘thank you’ or just simply smile when someone no better or worse than you chooses to stop and do a good deed. I suppose I’m pissing in the wind if I think anything would ever change, but then what would I have to moan about.

If you’re reading this and you are a member of this ignorant society then just try one of two things…..Either change your ways and stop acting like a complete twat or just simply stand on your local train tracks and wait for the next graffiti laden locomotive, don’t lose heart if it doesn’t arrive on time though, they never do !

Just Do It

I sat drinking a cup of tea ( no milk or sugar due to students refusing to buy these small luxuries and relying on stolen sachet’s from Burger King ) at my partners university this morning and as I looked out over the campus I realised I could never be cut out for that life. I have always wanted to be a part of university life, partly to prove to myself that I never left my knowledge in the last cubicle of the boys toilets at school whilst chain smoking cheap foreign cigarettes, but partly to feel that I’m actually doing something with my life.

I’ve worked in numerous places and trades but have never felt satisfied with what I was doing. The best job I had was working in a warehouse with what I can only describe as a group of second chance nutcases from the local asylum. I managed three years with these people before deciding to move on to far more exciting career prospects…..sitting in an office all day posting suicidal statuses on my facebook page. Needless to say I never lasted long and to this day have not found a job I can see myself tolerating, even liking.

So my idea is this….I will be booking a flight and a weeks accommodation to the first foreign destination that comes up and seeking work. I may last a week, a month or even a year but the most important thing is that I’m not settling for another menial employment with depressed people and wages that could be spent in one trip to the local pub. I’m sick to death with just plodding along and worrying about things that quite frankly, are trivial, nonsensical bullshit !

The reason for this blog is to basically say, if you have an idea, a plan that people think is irresponsible or a dream that society deems ridiculous……Just Do It !

You have one life and if you choose to spend it selling knock off watches in Thailand or being a rickshaw in china then by god you should do it. Don’t live a life full of regret, live it full of experience and good memories :) peace

Spontaneous adventures

This is something I recommend to everyone !

A few days ago I woke up suffering from an extremely large hangover. Instead of laying about with the possibility of projectile vomiting all over my sister’s house we decided to get out into the not so fresh ( Middlesbrough ) air.

Contemplating on which greasy spoon we should visit the decision was made to have a pub lunch and read the sunday papers. Being that the only news agents close enough was the train station we rambled through the streets to our destination. What happened next was the best plan formulated by me and my sibling since I don’t know when.

As we arrived at the station there happened to be a train waiting to be used for an adventure, being the half drunk travel enthusiasts as we are the plan was set. A day out at York.

Boarding the train with our exceptionally large newspapers and a subway meal to boot the magical machine roared its engines and set off with the intention to please our drink mangled little minds. After an hour on the trusty old Thomas the tank we arrived at our destination, as we were told by the silky voice echoing through the speakers.

Now it had been a long time since I had visited York and to be honest, couldn’t remember much about the place but I was glad of it. The great city of York lived up to the reviews of all its British and international tourist’s. The sights, the architecture, the fantastic piano player sitting outside York Minster playing music to bring a tear to the frozen eye ( it was rather cold ).

The whole day was a success and topping it off with a pint of real ale in a cosy pub with chilled music was a great end to a great day. All of this based on spontaneity.

Whether you spend a little or a lot these last-minute days out are worth every minute and penny. So next time you’re thinking of hugging the toilet and seeking sympathy just pop out for a sunday paper, you never know where you will end up :)

The power of smiling :)

I have only recently discovered the magical powers of baring your teeth ( regardless of nicotine or wine stains ) and smiling whether simply alone hoovering up spilt pot purri or strutting through your local public house with andrex super soft trailing from your new Clarke’s loafers.

Until recently I had been a member of the Victor Meldrew society, groaning about trivial things such as the weather, growling at the slightest mention of christmas and laughing, no,  guffaw at the simple mindedness of the idea that is happiness. I knew it was time to make a change !

After putting my new-found power into practise I found not only do I feel substantially more upbeat I also appreciate ridding my forehead of creases an old cast iron would have trouble smoothing.

It seems something so simple and easy to perform is also so easy to forget. The every day troubles which we all encounter tend to outweigh the every day feel good moments, which to be honest is rather sad !

Why is it that we spend any available moment thinking about the things we don’t have rather than appreciating the great things we forget are right in front of our eyes?

Just try this, when something bad happens  smile and take the best from it, when something good happens appreciate it.

So folks, the next time you open a letter to find out that the phone company has charged you the amount it would take for an orbit around Jupiter, just smile and write your family a letter instead :) ………………….Peace
